My name is Genevieve Davis and I am running for the Massachusetts State Senate in the Plymouth and Norfolk District, which includes the city of Weymouth and the towns of Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell and Scituate.
I earned a BA from Manhattanville College and an MBA from Boston University. I worked as a financial management consultant while raising our sons.
In my 40 years of professional financial experience in the non-profit arena, I have solved real problems in both good and bad economic times. My work gives me a rich background focused on the needs of families and communities. As a consultant, I am informed on a daily basis about issues facing education, higher education, human services, environmental conservation and education, labor, housing, minority and LGBT issues.
Working with small organizations, I am acutely aware of the problems facing small businesses which are the foundation of job creation statewide.
I served as one of the architects of a study that resulted in the redistricting of our town to address the problem of overcrowding in the elementary schools. I was an active participant in school committee meetings, community events and an appointed member of the high school parent council.
I have been married to my husband George for almost 30 years. For 27 of those years we have lived on the same street in Norwell where we raised our two sons, Ian and Evan, both of whom received an excellent education in the Norwell public schools.
Ian is a college graduate who is now serving in the United States Navy, continuing a military tradition which began with his grandfather who served in the Marines in World War II and his father who was in the Navy as a submariner. Our younger son, Evan, will graduate from college in 2012.
This is the first time I have run for elected office. I am running for this seat because I believe it is time for a change and I also believe my experience as a working mother and financial consultant is well suited for representing the people of the Plymouth and Norfolk District.
